Day 7 : MASAI MARA
|
 |
Enjoy a full day in the Mara with
two game drives included. This reserve is situated
to the west of Nairobi, on Tanzania's northern
border - it is the extension to the larger Serengeti
National Park in Tanzania. The Maasai Mara offers
wonderful scenery and an abundance of big game.
It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where
the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance
as existed a century ago.
It is a reserve of breathtaking vistas, panoramas
of vast rolling plains, hills and woodland groves,
well watered by the lovely Mara River, which bisects
the Reserve from north to south. The Mara is home
to the largest population of lions in Kenya, these
magnificent beasts spending most of the day sleeping
in the shade of acacia trees. Vast herds of buffalo,
zebra and wildebeest roam the plains. Impala,
gazelle, giraffe and hartebeest grace the landscape,
and the cautious topi may also be seen standing
sentinel on earth mounds on constant
Watch for predators. Waters of the Mara River
are home to crocodiles and pools of hippo, the
acacia woodlands and riverine forests favored
by leopard and elephant, and the open savannah
and dry bush areas play host to the plains' game
and their attendant predators such as lion, cheetah,
hyena and jackal. Dinner at the Sarova Mara Camp.
Optional activities that could be organized
during the 2 nights in Masai Mara:
1) Balloon safari
The balloons lift off just before sunrise when
the breeze on the plains is still cold. Once
airborne, the balloons are blown by the prevailing
winds across the broad landscape. Apart from
the hiss of the burners, the flight above the
Masai Mara plains is magically silent. The pilot
controls the height of the craft by regulating
the flow of hot air into the balloon. Sometimes
the balloon will descend over the plains for
a close up view of the wildlife; on other occasions,
it rises to clear a tree canopy and rise over
the riverine forest.
At the end of the flight, the passengers are
treated to a champagne breakfast, complete with
flowers. China and crystal are set out on the
table that is placed under a convenient acacia
tree. The finishing touch to the flight is a
game drive back to the lodge or camp, and the
possibility of seeing the same pride of lions,
or herd of elephants that had been viewed while
ballooning. Over a dozen balloons depart from
sites near six of the lodges and tented camps.
One is often able to view four of the 'Big Five'
while ballooning. A flight certificate is issued
on completion of the balloon safari. Extra
cost @ US $ 375.00 per person
OVERNIGHT: SAROVA MARA CAMP B, L, D. |
|
|
| Day 8 : MASAI MARA TO NAIROBI
AND DEPARTURE |
| After an early breakfast in the camp,

and then travel across the vast plains on the floor
of the Rift Valley. Keep an eye out for herds of giraffe
and gazelle and head up the Rift Escarpment on a road
built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II.
You will arrive back to Nairobi in the early afternoon;
lunch will be on your own arrangements. Afterwards you
will have the driver at your disposal to go shopping.
Later transfer to JKIA for your departure flight. |
